What a fantastic video. It makes me realise how much we clip back and throw away without realising it. Farmers too no doubt who are eager to plant the next thing rather than wait. I'm looking forward to seeing more videos and your gorgeous location too.

Thanks, but before using roughly 6-8kwh of energy and turn my kitchen into a sauna I rather keep buying salt at the supermarket.

We looked for a video about this because we used a trail cam to see what was killing our quail. We thought for sure it was a weasel. Could not believe my eyes that an owl was the perp! How he can kill the quail from outside the pen is mind boggling to me.

I have never seen potatoes planted in that fashion- meaning allowing the stems to come out the sides of the bag. I always thought you had to cover them as they grew to get a higher yield.

How long does the salt stay fresh for since there's no preservatives in it? And do you store it in the fridge or in the cabinet if you're doing this in the summer and it's hot?

I didn't learn a thing in this video. You said "Let's get into it" and then basically played a music video. Sorry mate but this was not helpful. I'm a homesteader that just learned of Hipcamp today and was looking for informative videos and yours started off nicely but I learned nothing. It was basically one long intro with far too loud music. I kept waiting for the information on how well it worked for you....experiences you had as a host, etc. but it was a big ol nothing burger. I could have got this much info from the Hip Camp splash page. Lame.

We have decided that September is our start date for our family to live like this, for 30 days. We have a 3, 4, and 5 year old who eat ALL day long lol, so we will see how long our food lasts so we know how much to grow to last us a year. No milk, or meat. But we have tilapia, a river down the road to fish, beach is a couple hours away for salt and such, we have a 1,000 sqft garden and chickens for eggs. Our goal is to do a year, and possibly forever, except for eating out here and there. Hopefully we will have a milk source, and more meat sources in the future We live in north florida (too hot to grow most stuff in the summer and too cold to grow most fruit trees and veggies in winter)

If you grow them in deeper pots, like a whiskey barrel, the roots will grow longer. That’s what the lady who grows commercial wasabi in Oregon does at her home. At their wasabi farm, they grow in the ground, under canopy for shade. I buy my wasabi plants from their farm.

It is easier and quicker to just use a large spoon to get the juices and fat. Also, if you use a bit of the juice with the fat to cook the vegetables in. It adds even more flavor compared to just the fat. That said, it was delightfully amusing watching you and hearing your husband's enjoyment in watching you 😄

If you are burning the salt then it might not be salt. I wonder if you shouldn't evaporate down to powder then heat it much hotter and burn off any unmated material. Then add water and filter again.
